The Winnett-Melstone girls’ cross-country team showed why they may be able to duplicate last year’s state Class C championship when they finished third at the Fergus Invitational on Friday, Sept. 16. The Runnin’ Rams finished behind Class AA Billings Central and Class A Hardin in the varsity competition. The Rams scored 120 points, compared to Billings Senior with 26 and Hardin with 77.
Melstone senior BreElle Wacker crossed the finish line in the girls’ race with a time of 20:43, while teammate Kita Weingart finished seventh overall in 21:06. The third Runnin’ Ram to cross the finish line in 16th place with a time of 22:55 was Franka Johne. If these three girls finish high at the State Class C Meet in Kalispell in late October, the Runnin’ Rams are in good position to bring home another state title. At the Lewistown meet, the top five girls’ placings determined the team scores.
Other Winnett-Melstone girls’ whose scores contributed to the team score was Brynn Jolma in 43rd (25:40) and Tawny Browning in 49th (26:09).
Rachael Stevenson is the only high school runner for Hobson this year. Stevenson finished in 42nd place with a time of 25:13.

Winnett-Melstone boys finish 12th
Five Runnin’ Ram boys competed at the Lewistown meet and finished in 12th-place overall. Just like the girls, the Class C boys top three scores at state are used to determine a team score.
Following are the Winnett-Melstone boy competitors with their placings and times: 59. Braden Jolma, 21:19; 61. Vitor Gabriel, 21:21; 68. Harry Griswold, 22:46; 69. Joe Griswold, 23:35; and 73. Cale McCarthy, 24:15.
