Trygve Steven Williams

Central Montana native and longtime resident Tryg Williams passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, in Great Falls after a lengthy illness. He was 51.

Born Trygve Steven Williams on July 10, 1966 in Lewistown, to Bob and Kati Williams of Hobson, he graduated from Hobson High School in 1984.

In 1984-85 Tryg served as reporter in the state officer ranks of the Future Farmers of America, traveling throughout Montana advocating for youth and agriculture. The following year he participated in the FFA’s exchange program, going to Thailand.

Tryg attended the University of Montana, lived in the Missoula area for much of his adult life, and was an avid Montana Grizzly fan. He worked as a wholesale sales representative for sporting goods, sports clothing and other companies. He married Lauren Hatch in 1997; they were divorced in 2010.

Tryg returned to his roots in Central Montana in his 40s, engaging in several business ventures and employment opportunities, including operating Progressive Products with Bob. Tryg loved to know people’s stories (as well as the stories behind those stories), and he certainly could tell a few of his own.

Tryg was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his longtime partner, Heather Guckeen of Great Falls; a sister, Kim Baumann of Hobson; brothers Marc (AriZona) of San Dimas, California; Dirk (Kristine Foot) of Missoula; Eric (Kristine) of Cheney, Washington; several nieces and nephews, and friends throughout Montana and the West.
