Wilma May Benes Bustell

Wilma May Benes Bustell passed away on May 26 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born in Lewistown on August 19, 1927 to William and Ellen Benes and resided on a farm with her parents near Moulton. She attended various country schools in Christina, Hilger and Moulton. She graduated from Fergus County High School in 1945.

Wilma worked part time at Powers Store and the Bon Ton. She then went to Eastern Montana College where she met her future husband, Carl Bustell of Billings. Wilma graduated in 1947 with a two-year teaching certificate and taught one year in White Sulfur Springs.

Wilma and Carl were married in Lewistown on June 6, 1948 and resided in Billings where her two children were born. Carl joined the Boy Scouts of America and the family went on to live in Forsyth, Miles City, Winona, Minn., St. Paul and Duluth, Minn. They eventually settled in Des Moines, Iowa.

Wilma worked in various jobs in Minnesota and Des Moines. After her retirement she volunteered at the Callahan Collection and the Des Moines Art Center. Carl died in 2008.

Wilma is survived by her children, Donald Bustell (Nancy Rambo) and Jean (George) Wilson; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Michel (John) of Billings; and two brothers, Jay (Margaret) Benes and Robert Benes of Lewistown.

Wilma requested no funeral or memorial services.  Memorials may be made to Kavanagh House, 900 56th Street, Des Moines, IA 50312-1806.
