Youth Mentoring Senior Spotlight Val Kolstad

Val became a mentor during her junior year and continued in her senior year. She says she loves being a mentor, but wishes she would have done it all four years of high school. One of her favorite activities to do with her mentee was iceskating, and she said she likes the large group meetings because “we get to be creative.”

While in high school Val has been involved in FCCLA, National Honor Society, F Club, softball, basketball and golf. In fact, a special high school highlight was when the golf team placed second at state this year. She plans on attending Concordia College this fall, and will be playing on the softball team.

Throughout her life, Val’s parents have been her role models. She said, “They have always pushed me to follow my dreams and they have taught me about life.”
