Kylie and Sean Zimmer were two of the 12 male and female athletes in the state to be awarded “Athlete of the Year” for their age groups for the 2017 Junior Olympic track and field season. Awards were presented in Butte last Sunday at the annual meeting of the Montana Association of USATF.
Selection of the male and female athletes were based upon their performances at three levels of competition this past summer in June and July. Recipients of the Athlete of the Year award were considered during their participation in the Association championships for Montana, the Region 11 Junior Olympic championships for Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming and the National championships in Lawrence, Kansas.
Over 300 track and field athletes in Montana between the ages of 7 and 18 years old were eligible to be considered for the award. The Montana Association of USA Track and Field congratulates each of the student-athletes for being selected as a recipient of the 2017 Ambassador of the Year award and for their commitment to the sport of track and field and the Junior Olympic program.
The Junior Olympic program offers competition in both track and field and cross-country for student athletes in six age divisions. For information about the Junior Olympic program visit its website at www.usatf.org or contact Dave Skelton, youth chair at bztkclub@gmail.com.
