Art Center Happenings

 In the Wilkins Gallery

Don’t miss the last few days of Larry Blackwood’s black and white photography of grain elevators. Blackwood’s seasoned eye behind the lens and sense of composition have come together to create stunning abstract images of subject matter that is vanishing from the American landscape.

“Ancestral Landscapes” and “Rivers”

Gesine Janzen, Associate Professor of Art at MSU, is bringing her collection of monotypes and wood block prints during the month of April. An opening reception will take place on Friday, April 7, from 5-7 p.m. The show will remain up until April 29.

Janzen has been successfully showing her work nationwide since the 1990s in fine art galleries and museums. This particular selection of pieces involves images and emotions of the Missouri River, as well as bygone images of her heritage from the Baltic Coast. Our thanks go out to Vickey, Bill and Brandon Cowen for sponsoring this show.

Thirty-second annual Montana Watercolor Society members show coming in May

From May 1 through the 31, we will feature the popular, perennial members exhibit of the Montana Watercolor Society. The two-day workshop this year will be taught by Whitefish artist Gretchen Finch. Finch has had the opportunity to live and paint in many beautiful areas of the West. Several people have commented to her, “Painting must be a nice, relaxing hobby,” to which she replied, “It’s neither relaxing nor is it a hobby. It’s hard work and it’s my passion.” This workshop is open to the members, but scholarships are available for interested candidates.

Please contact the Art Center for more information.

Social night

Whether you dabble in fine arts, enjoy crafty hobbies, or just like to try something new on occasion, the third Wednesday of each month is your night at the Art Center. Social Night provides a fun, inspirational venue to meet new people and surprise yourself at the artistic talent you have hidden inside. April 19 will be all about the Ken Edwards Clay Studio, as we learn to glaze and fire our own ceramic pieces to take home. SNAC starts at 6:30 p.m., with light appetizers provided. Bring along your favorite beverage and please register early as space fills up quickly. Visit us online at lewistownartcenter.net to learn more about upcoming SNAC programs.

Bob Ross landscape painting

On April 29, Don Dixson of Stanford, Montana will bring the Bob Ross spirit to The Lewistown Art Center for an all-day landscape-painting workshop. Using simple tools and a wet-on-wet oil paint technique, we’ll learn how to bring the canvas to life with scenery inspired by the natural world around us.

Register online or call the Art Center at 535-8278 for more information.
