Merrill Ranch fifth annual Harvest Ball

September is a big month for Lewistown: the Chokecherry Festival, “What the Hay?” the Metis Celebration and – for the last five years – the Harvest Ball.

This Friday, Weston Merrill and family are hosting the ball at their big red barn located 12 miles south of Eddie’s Corner in Buffalo. Over the last few years, the barn has become a music venue, hosting live music both local otherwise.

Those coming to this year’s Harvest Ball might want to bring their dancing shoes, as Steve Gillis of Billings will put on a dancing clinic, teaching those in attendance line dancing, two-step, jitterbug and swing.

Sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Harvest Ball also includes a potluck. Those planning on attending are encouraged to bring their best pot of chili, cornbread or dessert, salsa, jams, breads, pies or anything from their garden.

“People can expect to have a good time,” Merrill said. “It’s a really neat atmosphere and something the whole family can enjoy.”

Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. and festivities continue until around 10 p.m. The big barn is located at 505 E. Dry Creek. All ages are welcome.
