Local parent-teacher conferences scheduled

Lewistown Public Schools invites parents to meet with teachers to discuss their child’s educational program during the fall parent-teacher conferences. School will be in session on Wednesday, Nov. 1, with an early release at 1:30 p.m. There will not be school on Thursday, Nov. 2, due to parent-teacher conferences, nor on Friday, Nov. 3, due to a scheduled vacation day.

Thom Peck, superintendent of schools, said, “This conference is a wonderful opportunity for parents to participate in their child’s education process and to help teachers know how to better serve the students. We are hoping for a great turnout this year so we can continue to work together to improve the education of our children.”

Any student report card not picked up by their parent at conferences will be mailed on Monday, Nov. 6. Following are the schedules for each school site.

Fergus High School

Wednesday, Nov. 1 and Thursday, Nov. 2 are the scheduled dates for the fall parent-teacher conferences at Fergus High School. The parent-teacher conference schedule is as follows due to the divisional volleyball tournament:  Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday morning from 8 to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. The high school staff will again offer Eagle Renaissance rewards for students during each session to further encourage parent attendance at conferences.

The format for all conferences will be more of a traditional classroom format with parents picking up their child’s schedule at the main office and then visiting with teachers in their individual classrooms.

The staff does ask parents to keep individual conferences within a five- or six-minute time frame, but recognizes more time may be needed; parents can easily schedule additional meeting time. High school parents with specific questions about this year’s parent-teacher conferences, or parents wishing to arrange an after-school conference with a teacher on a different day, may contact Principal Jeff Elliott or Assistant Principal Jeff Friesen at 535-2321.

Lewistown Junior High

The Lewistown Junior High School will open its doors and gladly welcome all parents to the annual parent-teacher conferences on Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 5 - 8 p.m. Conferences will also be held Thursday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 - 4 p.m. Parents should note that on Thursday the LJHS teachers will take a lunch break from 1 to 2 p.m.

Principal Tim Majerus, along with the Lewistown Junior High Schoo staff, believe it is vitally important the family of every student is represented at these conferences. The conference format is similar to the high school.

We wish it were possible to schedule individual conferences, but with each teacher having 75 - 140 students, it would be a monumental task,” said Majerus. “Please feel free to schedule a conference at a later date if you’re not able to meet with all your child’s teachers within the conference times.”

If you have any questions about parent-teacher conferences, please call the junior high office at 535-5419.

Elementary schools

Elementary school principals Matt Lewis (Garfield), Matt Ventresca (Highland Park) and Danny Wirtzberger (Lewis and Clark) are working together to promote 100 percent representation of parents and guardians of elementary students at this year’s conferences.  Teaching staff at each school will meet parents according to pre-scheduled times. Requests for conferences and verifications of times have been sent home with students prior to the conference. Report cards and other curriculum information will be handed out and explained during the conferences.

Conferences for Garfield Elementary, Highland Park Elementary and Lewis and Clark Elementary will be on Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 4 - 7 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 2, from 8 -11 a.m. and 12 - 3 p.m.

Because of the tight schedule, prompt arrival for scheduled conference times will be crucial.  Parents unable to attend at a scheduled time are asked to contact their child’s teacher/principal by Monday, Oct. 30, to make other arrangements. Phone numbers for the schools are as follows:  Garfield Elementary 535-2366, Highland Park Elementary 535-2555, and Lewis and Clark Elementary 535-2811.

District One library staff, along with PTO volunteers, will be sponsoring a “book fair” at each of the elementary schools.
