At this time of year, it is typical for youngsters, teens and even adults to have the holidays on their minds. While the same is true for Roy eighth-grader Megan Bergum, she is also thinking about basketball.

Megan began playing Little Tykes basketball at the age of 4.  She started playing for the Roy-Winifred Outlaws during her fourth-grade year. You could say that her love for the sport is inherited.

“My whole family influenced me to play basketball. My aunts, uncles and cousins have all played. I watched my cousins play as I was growing up,” Megan explained.

This year, Megan fills the guard position on the Outlaws team. She fills other positions when needed as well. In order to prepare for a game, Megan listens to music and thinks about the upcoming opponents.

Along with basketball, Megan is involved in FFA and volleyball. Her favorite NBA player is Kevin Durant, who is a forward on the Golden State Warriors, her favorite NBA team.

When asked for her favorite Christmas memory, Megan held with the theme and replied, “My favorite Christmas memory is going and playing basketball with all my cousins.”

Family, sports and holidays… all wrapped up together.
