Denton sophomore Morgan Ward is a busy gal. The daughter of Pat and Kathy Ward, Morgan loves sports, as well as extracurricular activities.

This past year, Morgan joined the golf team in Denton for its debut season. She first became interested in golf when invited to go along and  play with her older brother. She also received encouragement from her uncle, Butch Nelson, who was one of the coaches.

“Being on the golf team was a fun experience.  Since there is no golf course near Denton, we traveled to Lewistown to practice,” Morgan said. “I learned so much about the fundamentals of golf and my scores improved throughout the season. Our team didn’t have the best year, but Denton had never had a golf team before. Our scores did improve during the season, however. It was a learning year.”

Besides golf, Morgan is part of the Denton-Geyser-Stanford girls basketball team. She plays the post position and also wing. She serves as treasurer of the Denton FFA group and secretary of the Denton BPA.

Outside of school, Morgan keeps busy on the family ranch. She is also president of the Sunnyside Shiners 4-H Club. Her personal projects this year are beef, pig, photography and possibly goats. She also enjoys taking care of her cows, attending FFA competitions and 4-H meetings.

When asked who she would choose if she could spend a day with anyone, Morgan replied, “I would choose Laura Ingalls Wilder. She is my favorite author. I would hope to learn about her life experiences and how she came to write her books.”

In the future, Morgan would like to attend MSU in Bozeman and major in animal science.

“I really like working on the family ranch and hope to return to help on the ranch after getting a college education,” she explained.
