Clara Mildred Sandman

Clara Mildred Sandman, 102, passed away with family at her side Friday evening, July 6, 2018 at Valle Vista Manor. Clara was born the daughter of Raymond Landru and Gladys (Battrick) Brown in Battrick, Montana on Feb. 26, 1916 in a grainery at the family homestead. At the time, the family was living in the grainery. She grew up in the Battrick area (south of Grass Range). Clara graduated from Grass Range High School. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Ardell Sandman on May 4, 1934 in Winnett. They moved to Lewistown in 1934 where they raised four children. Clara cared for other family members, including aging parents and grandchildren. She worked at Sears Roebuck and Company, and then worked at Weir Furniture for 22 years until she retired.

Clara enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing and painting. She was a selftaught artist and made many beautiful oil paintings for her family and friends. Although she began having some vision problems, Clara continued to paint until the time of her death. She always enjoyed visits from her great-granddaughter, Klara Jane Dunphy.

She is survived by her children Betty (Michael) Henn of Rapid City, South Dakota; Raymond (Chicgalia) Sandman of Florida and Joe (Peggy) Sandman of Lewistown; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Francis Brown, Raymond Holt Brown, Chester Brown, Willie Brown, infant Richard Brown, infant Calvin Brown and infant sister Betty Brown and her son, Robert Sandman and infant son William Sandman.

No services will be held for Clara Sandman at this time; cremation has taken place and committal will be in Central Montana Memorial Gardens with Lloyd at a later date. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
