Barbara Ross Janicek

Barbara “Barb” Eileen (Ross) Janicek, 72, passed away July 30 in Lewistown. Barb was born to John F. “Red” and Johanna (Tuss) Ross on Sept. 20, 1945 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lewistown. She was raised in Lewistown until 1956 when her family moved to Grants, New Mexico for a year with her parents and younger brother, Jerry.

Barb attended St. Leo’s School and graduated from Fergus High School in 1964. She married Jim Janicek Oct. 7, 1967. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital until the birth of her first child, Julie. Their son Robert “Bob” joined the family two years later.

The family moved to the ranch on Crystal Lake Road in September of 1971. Barb worked for the Crop Insurance office for several years, doing acreage reports. She worked during the Central Montana Fair for many years as superintendent of the arts and crafts department. In 1986, she started working at the Moore School doing various jobs. After retiring, Barb went back to work for a year and a half as a teacher’s aide.

Barb enjoyed spending time with and writing letters to her grandkids, doing yard work, collecting rocks, baking, sewing, traveling and Christmas. She volunteered at the Community Cupboard, CMMC Auxiliary, and the Altar Society of St. Mathias.

Barb touched the lives of many children. She always had a smile, a treat, a hug, advice, or words of encouragement. There were no boundaries to her love.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, James and Jerry Ross; and sister, Mary Ann Belonga.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Janicek; children, Julie (Dave) Miller, Bob (Diana) Janicek, and Jeff (Lani Wilson) Neudick; grandchildren, Kelby and Layne Janicek, and Kiera, Dane, Devon and Dylan Miller.

A Vigil and Rosary will be held, Thursday, Aug. 2, 7 p.m. at Creel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 3, at 4 p.m. at the St. Mathias Catholic Church in Moore. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Barb’s honor to Central Montana Medical Center Hospice.
