Wayne Eugene Smith, 79, passed from this life into eternity on Aug. 1.

He was born in Montrose, Colorado, Jan 5, 1939. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1961.

He married Laura Ellen Werling, also a native of Colorado, on Dec. 21, 1961.

Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years and his five children; John Smith (Vicky), Dan Smith, Barbie Wooten (Clay), Glen Smith (Marcy), Jerry Smith (Elizabeth), his 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Wayne was a meat cutter for many years in Colorado until 1976 when he moved to Montana and began running his own meat processing business, Moore Lockers. Wayne and Laura lived in Montana for 17 years

where they instilled in their children a strong Christian faith, work ethic and a passion for the outdoors.

He moved back to Colorado in 1993 and retired there from Albertsons. In Jan. 2017, he moved to Midland, Texas, where he spent his last days enjoying his family. He was a member of the Woodcrest Church of Christ.

Wayne was loved and respected by many. He was a man of integrity, and sacrificed everything for his family. He was an incredibly hard worker, generous, kind and loving. He loved to laugh and loved to “cut up and shoot the bull.”

He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral and Crematory of Midland, Texas. Online condolences may be sent at www.npwelch.com.
