Fiona Alverson and her horse, Raven, racing with Phoebe Alverson in tow, have been making waves in the skijoring world.
An obscure and, fans would say, under-appreciated sport, skijoring brings cowboys and skiers together in an unusual competition requiring a horse, rider and skier to work in unison, racing in conditions that break all the rules of horseback riding.
“You’re riding a horse, and fast, on icy, slippery conditions with a skier pulling on your horse,” Dennis Alverson, the girls’ father, said.
